About this journal
Electrical Contractors is an independent long-form journal for people who hold, or supervise people who hold, an Australian electrical licence. The domain name is the brief: we write about contracting, not about selling switchgear.
The earlier site on this name sat in the Australian trade web for years. The Wayback Machine did not return a usable capture while this edition was rebuilt, so the niche was taken from the name itself and from the way Australian electrical contracting actually works: state licences, AS/NZS 3000, Energy Safe Victoria and the Electrical Safety Office, CEC paperwork, and the van that has to pay for itself on a Thursday afternoon in Penrith or Townsville.
We are not a regulator, a union, a supplier catalogue or a lead-generation directory. We do not issue licences and we do not inspect installations. When we describe the law we name the instrument and tell you to read the current text. Dates and dollar figures that move — licence fees, rebates, penalty units — are treated as perishable.
Who it is for
Licensed electricians, qualified supervisors, registered electrical contractors, apprentices who are close to capstone, and the office staff who keep the certificates of compliance from disappearing into a glovebox. Builders and property managers are welcome if they want to understand why the sparky will not "just hook it up".
How the site is organised
Six topic hubs cover licensing and compliance, safety and testing, residential work, commercial and industrial work, solar and renewables, and the business of contracting. The article archive lists every piece.
